FAQs

AYSO: How does Region 159 fit in the AYSO structure?

REGION 159:  Representing the cities of Los Alamitos, Rossmoor and Seal Beach, Region 159 plays on fields in all three (3) locations during the Fall (played August thru December) and Spring seasons (played March thru May). The Region is supported 100% by volunteers who drive the core program that provides over 1,600 players (boys and girls) across divisions U05 thru U19 with an opportunity to play soccer. The Core Program continues with All-Star and Travel teams that participate in a playoff against other Area, Section and California State teams during the Post Season (January thru March)

AREA E: Region 159 is associated with seven (7) other Regions that are in the cities of West Garden Grove, Long Beach, Cypress, Cerritos, La Habra and Whittier. Together, we comprise Area 11E.

SECTION 11: Area E is a part of Southern California’s Section 11. Area E joins with seven (7) other Areas that stretch from the south Los Angeles County Border (Long Beach and Downey) through Orange County all the way to the San Diego Border.

AYSO Soccer Programs offered in Region 159: What are they?

Fall Core Program: The jewel of AYSO where our open registration allows everyone to  play and teams are balanced every year! Fully 95% of our registered players participate in this program from the ages of 4 to 19. It offers to develop the soccer player with certified coaches, trained referee's, a safe playing environment and best of all - quality soccer.

Post Season - Travel & All-Star's: For Travel Teams, this is an extension of the core Fall program whereby the top two teams in each of the competitive divisions of U10, U12 & U14 go on to represent Region 159 in the Area E Tournament (held Saturdays in January). For All-Star's, the top players are selected for the "All-Star Team"  from each of the competitive divisions of U10, U12 & U14. These teams go on to represent Region 159 in the Area E All-Star Tournament (held Sundays in January).

Spring Soccer: For those who wish to continue playing soccer during the cool spring months, the Region, in conjunction with local Area's offers Spring Soccer! Players submit their interest via the website and coaches are identified who then select players via a draft. Unlike the Core Program, not all players submitting an interest form are selected due to coach and referee limitations.

Extra Program: For a higher level of player competition, Region 159 offers the opportunity for advanced player/coach development as a part of the Extra Program where players actually try-out for placement on a team and then play against other Extra teams from across Section 11 in the following divisions: U09, U10, U11, U12, U13, U14 U15 & U16.

AYSO United Pacific:  The pinnacle of competitive soccer in Southern California - Club Soccer!  AYSO's most developed players are selected via try-out (held annually in January/February) for an Area wide club team in divisions U09, U10, U11, U12, U13, U14, U15, U16, U17, U18 & U19. The club teams participate in the Coast Soccer League (CSL) and players are dual registered with CYSA-South (Cal South) and AYSO. United fee's are very reasonable compared to most other club's.  The United program's foundation is based in accordance with AYSO philosophies, including each player must play half of each game.
